My name is Amr Metwali, DC. I am a rehab chiropractor providing patient-centered treatment focused around movement. My passion for health and wellness started while growing up in Iowa, where I played competitive club soccer.

My introduction to strength & conditioning started during high school soccer. Initially, I had negative experiences during weight training and struggled to perform exercises correctly. I avoided squatting when possible, and often blamed my “bad knees” for my poor movement ability. I put strength & conditioning training low on the list of priorities, and did not value the importance of training. I ultimately saw the consequence during college, when playing college club soccer at Iowa State University.

COLLEGE SOCCER & INJURIES

My college club soccer career could be defined as a long injury, that kept coming back. I spent every season rehabbing similar injuries, leading to want to take control of my health and achieve higher performance. Instead of rehabbing to get injuries again, I started training and taking things into my own hands. I was eager to get better and started taking exercise science courses and reading about training for optimal performance. I wanted to learn how to train effectively, and help educate others from my own mistakes.

MY GOAL TRANSITIONED FROM PREVENTING MY OWN INJURIES TO GUIDING OTHERS ON EVIDENCE-BASED TRAINING AND INJURY REDUCTION STRATEGIES

I helped educate and lead others while working as a personal trainer & group fitness instructor. While pursuing performance side of training, I worked for the athletics program as a Collegiate Strength & Conditioning intern for Division I wrestling, swimming & diving athletes.

After graduating from Iowa state with an exercise science degree in 2016, I wanted to understand the human body further. I pursued a master’s degree in Kinesiology from Southern Illinois University, with coursework in Sport Psychology, Exercise Physiology & Nutrition.

HOW I FOUND CHIROPRACTIC

During graduate school, I competed in local and regional powerlifting meets, leading to several frustrating injuries. After having chronic pain powerlifting, I sought out care from a rehab and manual therapy based chiropractor which introduced me to a different type of chiropractic care.

The results I saw from this type of care led me to the learning more about chiropractic. In 2018, I enrolled at Southern California University of Health Sciences, with an emphasis in sports medicine.

MY GOAL WAS TO UNDERSTAND ANATOMY AND BIOMECHANICS TO EDUCATE FUTURE PATIENTS ON MOVEMENT STRATEGIES FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE.

During chiropractic school, I recognized the importance of continuing education outside the curriculum to best serve my future patients. The more education I pursued, the more questions I had. By the time my doctorate was completed, I attended near 1,000 hours of coursework surrounding active rehabilitation and manual therapy.

My treatment style is a mesh of my various continuing education courses, experiences in sports medicine clinics, and clubs. My treatment is heavily influenced from the rehabilitation club on campus (Rehab 2 Performance), where I eventually led the club, educating other students on evidence-based rehabilitation strategies.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY

MOVEMENT FOR RESILIENCY

My treatment approach is centered on the idea MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE to create RESILIENCY for a safe return to activity.

By identifying and educating about pain-free movement options during treatment, we create a positive initial movement experience. Patients leave our office empowered and confident.

We create a long-term strategy for performing their favorite activities again.

How Is My Approach Different?

AN INDIVIDUALIZED APPROACH CENTERED AROUND MOVEMENT.

My approach is unconventional to normal chiropractic care, and provides more than a quick adjustment. Instead treatment focuses on the entire body, not just isolated treatment on small symptomatic areas. We target the root cause of pain, addressing all components of injury, promoting better longevity for movement.

Our goal is to identify an individualized movement strategy from the first session. Our mission is to provide a positive movement experience for patient empowerment and confidence to perform activity outside of the office without fear. We promote a patient-centered approach with an active role in their rehabilitation process leading to a high success rate for long-term outcomes.
